Chef Denise Smith currently works as a Sous chef at Big Canyon Country Club in Newport Beach, CA. Her passion for food developed through tough instruction from her grandmother and mother. They instilled in her the value of family and sharing a good meal. Her matchless creativity and love for food led her to two separate startups, GennieBee Catering and Dirty girl Edibles.
As an alumnus of Cerritos College, Chef Denise completed two Associate of Arts degrees, one in Small Business Management and Entrepreneurship and the other in Culinary Arts. She graduated with double honors being on both the President’s List and Dean’s List which resulting in her being invited to be a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. She accomplished all of this as a wife and mother of three children.
Chef Denise’s has enjoyed many unique experiences. As a teen, fresh out of high school, she was a live-in caretaker for Mrs. Galey Coleman, owner of the Coleman company where she was responsible for preparing all meals for Mrs. Coleman and her staff. While enrolled at Cerritos College, Denise competed in the Marukum Cup cooking competition. She has worked with several nonprofit organizations including In the Sprit Foundation Road to Hollywood, the United Negro College Fund, and The NAACP Daytime Theater Awards. Chef Denise has also had the pleasure of preparing dishes for several events that featured celebrities such as Shar Jackson, Jackie Christie, Angie Stone, Vivica A. Foxx, Tisha Campbell, and Tichina Arnold to name a few. She also served meals on the set of Bravos Married to Medicine television show.
